West Indies have announced their fifteen member cricket world cup 2019 squad on 24th April. Andre Russell has made comeback in the West Indies Cricket Team side after coming out of injuries and one year ban in 2017. Thirty years Andre Russell has been in great form in all T20 leagues he played. In Indian Premier League, he has played magnificently by scoring 392 runs at the strike rate of 217.77. Fans will enjoy his batting in world cup provided he continues his form in the big event.
Pollard is not made part of the team while Russell has been selected. Pollard has not played any ODI since October 2016 but he is playing well in IPL this year. Young John Campbell didn’t perform well against England in their recent tour to West Indies. Selectors chose Evin Lewis despite of his poor performance recently. His selection was based on to his cruel 176* scored at The Oval ground in 2017. Kieran Powell, who was the opener in three match ODI series against Bangladesh, was ignored by selectors.
Gayle, an experienced left handing Opening batsman, is also included in the ICC cricket world cup 2019 West Indies squad. He is the key man at the top and had played four world cups so far and this is going to be his fifth and last world cup. He Has played 289 ODIs scoring 51 half centuries and 25 centuries He has been in amazing form this year, has score 424 runs at average of 106 in five one day internationals he played. He is showing his class in IPL these days with strike rate of 159.46 including 99*. Gayle along with Lewis could prove devastating for the opposition.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 West Indies Team Matches
Hetmyer, who has established himself as important member in the middle order since his debut in December 2017, has been selected in the squad. Apart from his outstanding Caribbean Premier League in 2018, he has scored impressive 900 runs in ODIs. Shai Hope will be the wicket keeper and Nicholas Pooran will serve as a backup for Shai Hope. Darren Bravo, another experience player, is also in the squad.
Jason Holder, Captain, alongwith Carlos Brathwaite will play as all rounders. Shannon Gabriel and Sheldon Cottrell, main pace attackers for West Indies Cricket Team, are also among the world cup 2019 West Indies players list. Kemar Road and Oshane Thomas are among the remaining fast bowlers for Windies. Thomas who debuted in October 2018 is going to be the next great West Indian Pacer. Thomas has taken 15 wickets in 9 ODIs including match winning five wicket haul against England. Keemo Paul and ALzarri Joseph could not make it to the West Indies world cup squad. Ashley Nurse and Fabian Allen will make the spin department while leg spinner Devendra Bishoo is out.
Their first ICC cricket world cup 2019 match will be on 31 May against Pakistan.
