The owner (Satish Venkateshwarlu) of this app was given a number of official and unofficial warnings by Star Sports to stop streaming IPL matches live on the app. The owner, however, did not stop the live streaming of IPL matches. So in June 2021, Star Sports and other OTT platforms filed a lawsuit against Satish, the owner.

Following the lawsuit, the Hyderabad based 28 years old owner was arrested by the Maharashtra cyber police on 16th July 2021 for selling pirated content. The OTT platforms won the lawsuit, and the app was declared illegal. As a result, the Thoptv Live app was removed from both the Google Play Store and Apple Store.
